Practical ways to SERVE THE COMMUNITY

SERVING THE COMMUNITY

Hobart City Careworks Inc enables the Hobart City Church of Christ to more effectively fulfil the second part of our principal purpose, that we included in our Rules of Incorporation: “To promote Christian fellowship, discipleship and worship, in accordance with New Testament teaching, for the advancement of the Kingdom of God and to assist and conduct social welfare and relief work including the relief of poverty, sickness, suffering and misfortune.”

Hobart City Careworks

Was originally intended to be the legal avenue - with appropriate federal government approvals, such DGR1 status (which allows tax deductible giving) through which our clothing hub would operate and seek grant funding.

Has opened the door (which we believe was always part of God’s plan) for our church to pursue other missional opportunities which can sit under the umbrella of Careworks (for funding and donations) to further the kingdom’s cause in our community.

Was created with the advice, and endorsement of Churches of Christ in VIC/TAS and with the legal assistance of Peter Crosby of AFM Limited, who advised the church on its journey through incorporation in 2023.

Has promoted clarity on how we do things, which has brought about a name change for our clothing hub. We’ve now dropped Thread Together from the name, and now refer to it as the Hobart Clothing Hub, a project of Hobart City Careworks Inc. and a principal partner of Thread Together Ltd.

Has a governance board (which previously acted as the Steering Committee for the Clothing Hub), rules of incorporation and a membership that is open to any active member of the Hobart City Church of Christ. All you need do is apply - we’d love to have you involved!

What does that mean...practically?

This means that under the banner of Hobart City Careworks, the Hobart City Church of Christ can pursue opportunities in the Greater Hobart area to practically express our LOVE for GOD through SERVICE to our COMMUNITY. At present Careworks have two projects.

Hobart Clothing Hub

Established in 2021, the Hobart Clothing Hub was the first location of a Thread Together partner project in Tasmania. The purpose of the Clothing Hub is to provide FREE brand new clothing items to Hobart's more vulnerable. The Hub is not open to the general public, but is accessed through partnerships with over 80 service providers. For more information, to volunteer, to donate or to access the service click the button below.

Hearts and Minds

Providing seminars, training and skills development for churches, leaders and the general public on issues which are impacting our society.

In 2024 this included hosting the Church Mental Health Summit in June, General First Aid and AED training in August, and Mental Health First Aid in October. In 2025, the first seminar will be about Domestic and Family Violence.
