New Here?

We can't wait to meet you!

We're excited to invite you to join us at church this Sunday. It's a laid-back welcoming space where you can meet new people and find a little inspiration. We're really looking forward to meeting you and sharing this experience together. Hope to see you there!

Sunday Mornings

10:00 am

First Sunday of the Month

from 5:00 pm

Location

8 Goulburn Street, Hobart 7000

Being so centrally located, Hobart City Church is blessed to have so many visitors (who we prefer to call our guests) from our local neighbourhoods and from around the world.

One of the first things you will notice is that our building does not look like a church – there is no pointed roof, stained glass, or organ – in fact, our building used to be a plumbing supply warehouse.

Our weekly Sunday morning service begins at 10am and runs for about one and a quarter to one and a half hours. As you enter the building from 8 Goulburn Street, one of our welcome team will greet you at the front door and offer you a copy of our monthly newsletter, which contains guest information and they can answer any questions you may have. If it is your first time, you will also receive a Welcome Pack which contains more information about us, and provides you with a way to connect further. The welcomers can also show you to a seat, introduce you to someone new, or connect you with our children’s church team. If you are a first-time guest, we encourage you to complete a connect card – that way we can write to you and thank you for attending – we will NOT use your address for any other purpose.

What to Expect

During our services, you can expect:
  • live music where we worship and praise God;
  • an opportunity to connect with God through prayer;
  • an occasion to give thanks to God through a gold coin donation we call “the love loaf” which supports our nine sponsor children;
  • a celebration meal called communion – which is a small ‘shot’ of grape juice and a small piece of unleavened bread – where we take time to remember the death, and resurrection of Jesus;
  • a chance to give financially to support the work of the local and global church;
  • a practical message on life and faith from the Bible (known as a sermon).

You are welcome to take part in as much or as little of the worship service as you like. There is no expectation for anyone to participate in any part of the service that you are not comfortable with. If you have any questions about why we do certain things, do not hesitate to ask.

First Sunday of the Month

Since August 2024, we have resumed our casual evening service starting at 5pm. It contains all the same elements as the weekly Sunday morning service, but with an emphasis on those who are unable to come along in the mornings. Sermons in this context will be in video format from respected pastors from around the world (with their permission) followed by soup and rolls - or bbq and salads in warmer months. In the last little while we have enjoyed the teaching of Gene Appel (Eastside Christian), Tim Foot (Lifebridge Church), and former Youth Pastor at Hobart City Church Andrew Tonkin (Mildura Church of Christ).

If you have never been to church before, this will be a great place to start.
